Examination usually reveals tenderness or swelling at the lower part of the tibia. The treatment typically involves immobilization in a short- or long-leg cast. The duration is three to four weeks for toddlers and six to 10 weeks for older children.
There are many treatment options for a distal radius fracture. The choice depends on many factors, such as the nature of the fracture, your age and activity level, and the surgeon's best judgment. Nonsurgical Treatment. If the broken bone is in a good position, a cast may be applied until the bone heals.
Casts can be made of plaster or fiberglass — a plastic that can be shaped. Photos show a long-arm cast made of fiberglass with cotton lining. Splints or half-casts can also be custom-made, especially if an exact fit is necessary. Other times, a ready-made splint will be used.
