Founding members were lead singer Mike Reno (previously with Moxy as Mike Rynoski), guitarist Paul Dean (previously with Scrubbaloe Caine and Streetheart), keyboardist Doug Johnson, bassist Jim Clench (replaced after one gig by Scott Smith) and drummer Matt Frenette.
In 1979, Frenette left Streetheart and moved to Vancouver, where he joined Paul Dean, Mike Reno and Doug Johnson in Loverboy. They have since produced seven studio albums plus compilations and live albums, and a number of hit singles in Canada and the United States.

After renaming the band Wascana the group finally became Streetheart when guitarist Paul Dean and drummer Matt Frenette joined in 1977. A year later the band released Meanwhile Back in Paris..., and then Under Heaven Over Hell in 1979, after which Frenette dropped out to join Dean in Loverboy.

Matt Frenette | Remo. Loverboy. Matt's love of music started at the age of 5 while playing the bongos listening to records with his parents. Artists like Perez Perado, Tito Puente, Harry Belefonte, Johnny Cash and Tom Jones were always spinning on the record player. By the age of 10, Matt was learning his rudiments in a marching and concert band.
