The current line up are original members Mike Finney and Alex Sidebottom, plus bass player Joe Brehony and guitarists Chris Dutton and Jonny Poole. Brehony played alongside Alex in 'The Things'. Dutton has been in numerous bands including the 'Blue Orchids' and 'Kill Pretty'.
Joe Brehony (bass and vocals) Joe and Chris have played in many leading Manchester bands such as: Kill Pretty, Blue Orchids and The Things. We started up again primarily for the buzz and joy of doing live gigs again and playing our classic songs.
The Distractions were well known on the post-punk music scene 1978-1982. They released records on the TJM, Factory Island and Rough Trade labels to excellent reviews and were regarded as one of the top three bands in Manchester along with Joy Division and The Fall.

19 de jul. de 2023 · The newly rechristened New Distractions release their EP, Time and Time Again via Bandcamp in conjunction with TJM Recordings. Formerly The Distractions, they were the only band to release tracks for both TJM and Factory Records in the post-punk era before signing to Island.
Joe Brehony, Mike Finney, Tim Lyons. Mike and Alex rolled back the years with a terrific set of early favourites. The 1-2-3 burst of It Doesn't Bother Me , Too Young , and Maybe It's Love , were all from the TJM debut EP.
The final act of the evening was The Distractions. Formed in 1975 and then reforming back in 2010, the band’s originally members Alec Sidebottom and Mike Finney joined later members Joe Brehony, Chris Dutton and Jonny Poole.
