26 de mar. de 2018 · The Ursuline School on Naxos began operating in 1739, but efforts to establish a girl school were first made a century earlier, by Frenchman Robert Saulger, the Jesuit superior at Naxos. The property was purchased by the Greek state in 1986 and has since served as a cultural institution.

The Ursulines School and Merchant Academy were also founded inside the castle. The power of Marco Sanudo lasted until 1564 when the Turks took entire Greece. During the Turkish Ottoman rule, Naxos had a privileged place for the Venetians to negotiate to keep their authority and monarchic administration.

In the 1840s the Jesuits founded a monastery and boys school in the small picturesque village of Loutra – now the Folk Museum of the Monastery of Jesuits .
