In 1925 she became the first woman in Washington to be licensed as an architect. In her 40-year career, she designed more than 500 landscapes, specializing in residential design and focusing on the integration of house and garden.
After her debut in 1905, the Greely family traveled for two years, visiting Europe, Central America, and Asia. Country House Landscapes and Designs. Despite Greely’s “strict spatial organization” for city homes and gardens, she applied a more organic approach to country homes.
In 1925 at the age of 38, Rose Greely became the first licensed female architect in Washington, DC. Greely is known as a pioneering landscape architect, who ran her own thriving firm for 40 years, working primarily (though not exclusively) on residential commissions.
