John Joseph Wardle (born 11 August 1958), [citation needed] known by the stage name Jah Wobble, is an English bass guitarist and singer. He became known to a wider audience as the original bass player in Public Image Ltd (PiL) in the late 1970s and early 1980s; he left the band after two albums.

That in turn was followed by an invitation to play on Ginger Baker’s Middle Passage, which Laswell was producing.

He was a key part of the late-‘70s British punk renaissance. In fact, his stage name emerged out the Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious mumbling his real name, John Wardle. After the Sex Pistols broke up in 1978, John Lydon asked Wobble to join PiL, which included dub and Middle Eastern elements in its mix.
