  1. Hartman Bache (September 3, 1798 – October 8, 1872) was an American military engineer who participated in the construction of many of the earliest lighthouses on the West Coast. He made a number of sketches of these lighthouses and light stations which have since become an important resource in the study of American lighthouses.

  6. BACHE, Hartman, civil engineer, was born in Philadelphia. Pa., in 1797; son of Benjamin Franklin and Margaret H. (Markoe) Bache. He was graduated from the military academy at West Point in 1818, and was promoted in the army to brevet captain of staff, serving on the surveys in Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
