Steve Zodiac (Real name Stephen John Hepworth) is a guitarist and songwriter, who gained recognition in the early 1980s as frontman of new wave of British heavy metal band Vardis. He is credited as writer of heavy metal songs "If I Were King", "Lets Go", and "100mph"; and had a Fender Telecaster.
Colonel Steve Zodiac was the captain of Fireball XL5. He played a key role in ensuring the solar system's 2065 Space War against Astra remained short-lived. Steve first came to fame in 2059 when it was announced that he would pilot the new XL patrol ship.
Set in the 21st century, the show follows the adventures of protagonist Steve Zodiac and the crew of the space ship XL5 as they patrol Sector 25 of the galaxy on behalf of the World Space Patrol. Fireball XL5 featured strong science fiction plot lines using plot devices such as time travel, teleportation, hypnosis, and alien possession.
