  6. About. Born on 31 December 1903 in Odessa, that melting-pot and forge of musicians, Nathan Mironovich Milstein was the third of seven children of a reasonably prosperous merchant. He studied the violin with two famous pedagogues: Pyotr Stoliarsky in Odessa and Leopold Auer in St Petersburg.
