Asperities is another darkly beautiful album from indie cellist and contemporary classical composer Julia Kent. A member of Rasputina back in the '90s, and since then a regular contributor to ANOHNI and the Johnsons, Kent has stepped out on her own this decade. Her contributions are slow and minimal, yet deeply evocative.

I had to look that up, though the bleak, snowy landscapes evoked by Canadian cellist Julia Kent on her album of that name couldn’t convey the feeling any more clearly.
