Discover America is the second album by American recording artist Van Dyke Parks, released in May 1972 by Warner Bros. Its sound is a major departure from his debut album, Song Cycle (1967), featuring all cover versions of previously written songs.
Lowell Thomas George (April 13, 1945 – June 29, 1979) was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer, who was the primary guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and founder/leader for the rock band Little Feat.

10 de jun. de 2009 · Parks reimagines and rearranges traditional material on Discover America, as well as borrowing two killer tunes from Allen Touissaint (“Occapella” and “Riverboat”) and Lowell George’s “Sailin’ Shoes” (Little Feat actually play on Park’s “FDR In Trinidad”).
Sometime in early 1972, bassist Roy Estrada, frustrated by the band's lack of commercial success, left Little Feat and returned to the Mothers of Invention. For a time, George busied himself with session work on Van Dyke Parks' calypso infused album, Discover America.
On his sophomore effort, Discover America, Parks finds America... in the Caribbean. The album boasts lovely, languid renditions of great songs such as Little Feat's "Sailin' Shoes." - Simon Glickman, Musichound Rock: The Essential Album Guide, 1996.
