The Smithereens are an American rock band from Carteret, New Jersey. [1] . The group formed in 1980 with members Pat DiNizio (vocals & guitar), Jim Babjak (guitar & vocals ), Mike Mesaros (bass guitar & vocals ), and Dennis Diken (drums & percussion).

Prior to entering the studio to record, Mike would take Pat DiNizio’s demo tapes, and using his 4-track tape machine, he would play along with the demo and record different bass lines.
