The Noise is the 20th studio album by the English singer and songwriter Peter Hammill . As the title implies, the album is a collection of uptempo rock songs, in sharp contrast to Hammill's previous album, Fireships, which consisted mainly of ballads.

The two albums sound, by Hammill standards, stunningly sophisticated, and by any standard, excellent. Fireships is an introspective, acoustic sounding collection of (mainly) love songs with masses of MIDI orchestrations, whilst The Noise is a powerful, wild Rock statement, with Hammill clearly enjoying cranking up the volume.
