Desperate Character is the first solo album of British singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl, released in 1981. The album was re-released in March 1985 as Kirsty MacColl, with three tracks replaced with other songs.
Desperate Character (1981 LP) front cover. After Kirsty’s 1979 debut with ‘ They Don’t Know ’ was a hit only in airplay terms, and problems at Stiff Records led to the canning of its follow up, ‘ You Caught Me Out ’, Kirsty left the label and signed with Polydor.

Her murder in 2000 was a particularly great loss, because her last album was her best one in my opinion, and she was just starting down an exciting path of mixing her English pop with Latin music. "Desperate Character" is MacColl's first album, from 1981.
