The band formed in 1983, comprising Mad Shadows members lead singer/rhythm guitarist Trevor Steel and guitarist John Holliday, along with former Expressos members bassist Johnnie Christo (a.k.a. John Christoforou) and drummer Milan Zekavica.
The Escape Club formed in London, England in 1982 from the remains of two bands; The Expressos and Mad Shadows. Their founding members were; Trevor Steel, John Holliday, Johnnie Christo and Milan Zekavica. Both bands, Mad Shadows and the Expressos had done quite well on the gig circuit.

Milan Zekavica is known for Gotti (2018), Johnny Hallyday: Je serai là (Live) (1993) and The Escape Club: Wild, Wild West (1988).
The Escape Club, which includes lead singer Trevor Steel, lead guitarist John Holliday, bassist Johnnie Christo, and drummer Milan Zekavica, broke out of London’s club scene and signed with EMI Records in 1986.
Lead singer Trevor Steel and lead guitarist John Holliday were members of Mad Shadows, but when their drummer left, Espressos drummer Milan Zekavica was invited to join. By 1983, bass player Johnnie Christo had also been recruited by Mad Shadows and the group, renamed as Escape Club, began to play shows.
The single reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 the week of 12 November 1988, making the Escape Club the only British artist to have a No. 1 hit in the United States while never charting in the UK.
