19 de ene. de 2008 · Dewayne Pate. Biography. Dewayne Pate was born in Richmond California, in the cradle of East Bay Funk, and started playing bass at the age of 15. In 1980 Dewayne moved to Los Angeles where he attended the Musicians Institute and studied with bass virtuoso Jeff Berlin.
Bassist Dewayne Pate is one of those artists, and his new album, “On the Upside”, is his first album as a leader in fourteen long years, but it has been well worth the wait because this is a star studded opus with dynamic production and hot performances to boot.
Dewayne Pate. “On The Upside” delivers funk, blues, and fusion jazz tunes, and showcases Dewayne’s skill as a composer as well as a beast of a bass player, offering up five of his own compositions. The album opens with his composition “4 The 5 Of It.” Written in 5/4 time, the title is a play on words.
