Albert Ammons. Albert Clifton Ammons (March 1, 1907 – December 2, 1949) [1] was an American pianist and player of boogie-woogie, a blues style popular from the late 1930s to the mid-1940s. [2] Life and career. Ammons was born in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were pianists, and he had learned to play by the age of ten.
During the years 1945-1949 he returned to Chicago, held down a steady gig at the Bee Hive, and periodically recorded for Mercury, backing legendary blues woman Sippie Wallace, collaborating with guitarists Lonnie Johnson and Ike Perkins, and, on April 8, 1946, sharing a memorable session with his son Gene Ammons.
Garner, Vinson, and Washington, blues vocalists Walter Brown, Roy Byrd (who later became known as Professor Longhair), Helen Humes, anaSippie Wallace, boogie wooqie and blues-piano giant Albert Ammons, legendary Kansas City bandleader Jay McShann, and stalwart soloists Buddy Rich and Cootie Williams.

24 de sept. de 2016 · The concert created a surge in the popularity of boogie woogie, with Ammons at the forefront, and he worked quite extensively throughout the following decade, culminating with his performance at Harry S. Truman’s inauguration in 1949. After a period of illness, Ammons died on December 2, 1949.
