The Northern Pikes are a Canadian rock band formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1984. The original members are Jay Semko, Bryan Potvin, Merl Bryck and Glen Hollingshead, who left the band in 1985 and was replaced by Jay Semko in June 1986.
The Northern Pikes are one of a handful of acts that have a permanent footprint on the psyche of generations of Canadian rock and pop fans. Since first forming in Saskatoon in 1984, the group has had one platinum album with 1990’s Snow in June, four gold LPs, and eight hit singles that remain mainstays across the country.
The Northern Pikes are from Canada and were formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in January 1984. The original lineup was spawned from the ashes of three local groups, The Idols, Doris Daye and 17 Envelope. The founding members were Jay Semko (Vocals, Guitar), Merl Bryck (Vocals, Guitar), Bryan Potvin (Guitars) and Glen Hollingshead (Bass).
Its core lineup of vocalist and bassist Jay Semko, vocalist and lead guitarist Bryan Potvin, vocalist and rhythm guitarist Merl Bryck, and drummer Don Schmid remained intact from 1986 through 1993, at which point it broke up with members pursuing solo projects.
