The band initially consisted of Richard Butler (vocals), Tim Butler (bass guitar), Duncan Kilburn (saxophone), Paul Wilson (drums), and Roger Morris (guitars). By 1979, this line-up had expanded to a sextet with Vince Ely replacing Wilson on drums and John Ashton joining as a second guitarist.

17 de nov. de 2021 · As of November 2021 Vince Ely is sadly in the first stages of urgent and delayed treatment for throat cancer. As friends and fans, we are absolutely devastated to see this unfold so we now must race against time to support Vince to help restore his health and prolong his life.

Steve Lillywhite also expressed an interest after hearing President Gas and Forever Now, which were already in the set. The logic shouted at me: “Go with Bowie at all costs. You’ll never get a better chance!”

Within two years, they replaced Wilson with Vince Ely and gained their second guitarist, John Ashton.
