The low burr that greets Classic Rock down the phone line from his home some 70 miles north of LA is a curious mix of Californian and Geordie. A US resident for over four decades now, Burdon explains that the mountain air is good for his asthma.
Driving force of the Animals, Burdon helped lead the British Invasion with their first international hit, "House of the Rising Sun."
