Run-DMC fue el primer grupo de hip hop en lograr un disco de platino, un multiplatino y una nominación a un Grammy. Fueron los primeros raperos en aparecer con un video en la cadena MTV (en 1984 con "Rock Box") y los primeros raperos en una portada de la revista Rolling Stone en 1987.
Run D.M.C. fue una de las agrupaciones estadounidense pioneras del hip hop, el cual, indudablemente marcó su estilo interpretativo durante un poco más de dos décadas, dejando grandes éxitos, además de que se convirtieron en una de las mayores influencias en el género musical para posteriores raperos y agrupaciones.
