The Tashkent Islamic Institute named after Imam Bukhari was established in 1969. It is under the supervision of the Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan. It was rebuilt by the resolution of the Council for Religious Affairs under the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union on opening a higher-level madrasa in Tashkent.

The Islamic Institute did not have its current look until 1997, after a major reconstruction of the Hast Imam Complex within whose territory it is found.
