Carter Glen Stanley (August 27, 1925 – December 1, 1966) was a bluegrass music lead singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitar player. He formed The Stanley Brothers and The Clinch Mountain Boys band with his younger brother Ralph Stanley.

Carter Stanley was an informed student of early country music, and imparted that knowledge to new audiences at his concerts during the 1960s folk music era. Reportedly turned down Bill Monroe’s 1951 offer to retitle his act “Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers.”
