This band recorded the basic tracks of the album in the summer of 1980 after finishing the tour, with guitarist Steve Vai and vocalist Bob Harris adding overdubs and joining the group for Zappa's fall 1980 tour.

Much cleaner sounding than the previous two, this album has an equal balance of vocal and instrumental offerings. There's even a couple examples of what Frank called "meltdown", a sort-of-twisted-half-talking-half-singing mixture that is sure to drive anyone looking for a nice little melody to suicide.

Steven Siro Vai is an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer. A three-time Grammy Award winner and fifteen-time nominee, Vai started his music career in 1978 at the age of eighteen as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, and played in Zappa's band from 1980 to 1983. He embarked on a solo career in 1983 and has released eight solo albums to date.
