Siren of the Tropics (French: La Sirène des tropiques) is a 1927 French silent film starring Josephine Baker. Directed by Mario Nalpas and Henri Étiévant and set in the West Indies , the film tells the story of a native girl named Papitou ( Baker ) who falls in love with a French man named André Berval ( Pierre Batcheff ).
A rich Parisian marquis tries to prevent his engineer from marrying his goddaughter, who loves him, by sending him to the Antilles. There, he meets Papitou, a native girl who falls for him, but faces a dilemma when he plans to return to France.

Overview. Marquis Sévéro, a rich, lazy Parisian, wants to divorce his wife so that he can marry his own goddaughter Denise. But Denise herself loves André Berval, an engineer employed by the marquis. Filled with jealousy, the marquis sends André to the Antilles, to prospect some land he has just acquired.
