Members included keyboard player Peter Allison, Martin Kean, Martyn Bull, keyboard player Fraser Batts, bassist Terry Moore, drummer Caroline Easther, bassist Justin Harwood and keyboard player Andrew Todd. Toured extensively to the UK, through Europe and to the US.
During this time, the group went through an enormous number of members: future Great Unwashed bassist Peter Gutteridge, the Clean's David Kilgour, keyboardist Frazer Batts, bassist Terry Moore, guitarist Martin Kean, keyboardist Peter Allison, drummer Martyn Bull, and drummer Alan Haig.
The group (which initially included Phillipps, bassist Terry Moore, keyboardist Frazer Batts and drummer Alan Haig) grew out of the blossoming New Zealand scene of the early to mid-eighties, informed by locally succesful groups like The Clean, The Bats and Tall Dwarfs –all of which were supported by the Dunedin based Flying Nun independent label.
