Higgs and Tiles left shortly after the single was recorded and were replaced by drummer Taylor Nelson Little and sax/bass player Gary Middleclass (né Bourgeois). The four track EP Introducing Payola$ was released by A&M in 1980.

Payolas' early sound could best be described as punk meets Cyndi Lauper, a culmination of Hyde’s British influences and the trendy pop that was all the rave in Vancouver at the time.
29 de abr. de 2024 · The band was founded by Gary Middleclass (also known as Gary Bourgeois), a musician who recorded with underground punk bands Generator and the more famous Payola$. He joined forces with bassists Michael Wonderful, Brock Rock and Aleh to create the band’s initial lineup.
The group was formed in 1978 by Paul Hyde and Bob Rock, who joined up with drummer Taylor Little and bassist Gary Middleclass.
