In Homer’s Odyssey, the Greek hero Odysseus escapes the danger of the Sirens’ song by stopping the ears of his crew with wax and having himself tied to the mast.
In Greek mythology, sirens (Ancient Greek: singular: Σειρήν, Seirḗn; plural: Σειρῆνες, Seirênes) are humanlike beings with alluring voices; they appear in a scene in the Odyssey in which Odysseus saves his crew's lives. Roman poets place them on some small islands called Sirenum scopuli.

They lived on a rocky island called Anthemoessa, the “flowery island.” There, they laid in wait for ships to pass by. When a ship came near, the Sirens would begin to sing. Their voices and the lyrics to their songs were so lovely that no one could resist them.
