The Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music offers professional education and training in classical music and contemporary music, including undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The conservatorium aims to combine traditional music skills and contemporary music practices, and to cultivate students’ strengths in composition and performance.
Opened in 2020, the Conservatorium’s exciting new home at the Hedberg heralds a new era for music and performance in Tasmania. You can study music creation, performance, songwriting or music technology, and take subjects from other university areas to increase your versatility and career opportunities.
The Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music opened in 1964 as the Tasmanian School of Music, changing its name a year later. Major directors have been Rex Hobcroft (1964–72), Jan Sedivka (1972–82), Professor David Cubbin (1985–89), composer Don Kay (1990–95) and Professor Douglas Knehans (2000–).
