Band of Light were an Australian blues-rock band formed in Sydney in October 1972 by New Zealand-born Phil Key (ex-the Mergers) on lead vocals and lead guitar from New Zealand-formed band, the La De Das, which had relocated to Sydney, in 1968. He recruited latter day bandmate, Peter Roberts (ex-Freshwater, the La De Das) on bass guitar.
Phil Key. Profile: From West Auckland, Phil Key was the singer for The La De Das. He left the band in 1972 and formed The Band Of Light. He died May 1984 in Sydney of a congenital heart condition. He was married to Pamela Key, with whom, collaborating under the name "Wheel", he wrote songs. Show more.

Band of Light was a blues-based group formed in October 1972 in Sydney (Australia) by Phil Key, with bassist Peter Roberts – both of whom had just left The La De Das. Their distinctive blues-rock sound was built around the dual slide guitar work of Key and their other superb guitarist, Norm Roue, who had come from Sydney band Gutbucket.
