Tyler "Ty" Mendoza was a neighbor of the Vasquez family when they lived in East Riverside and is one of the two main male figures (the other being Emmett) in Daphne's life. Regina used to have Ty take Daphne to screenings of Deafenstein at Carlton.
Ty. Ty. Ty is a poor, attractive mexican young boy. Ty meets Bay when Bay does graffiti on his back door thinking it was a blank wall. Ty first thought of Bay as a stuck up rich white girl.
Two teen girls discover that they were accidentally switched at birth. Bay Kennish grew up in a wealthy family with two parents and a brother, while Daphne Vasquez, who lost her hearing as a child after a bout with meningitis, grew up with a single mother in a poor neighborhood.
The dramatic story is set in the Kansas City metropolitan area, and revolves around two teenagers who were switched at birth and grew up in very different environments: one in the affluent suburb of Mission Hills, Kansas, and the other in working-class East Riverside, Missouri.
