An act of Parliament was passed to grant the Cricket Association the lease of land in the parklands between North Adelaide and the River Torrens to construct the ground.. During 1888, a switchback rollercoaster was constructed and was adjacent to Adelaide Oval where the present Riverbank Stand resides.
