Hace 3 días · The Rockaway Peninsula was originally part of the Town of Hempstead, then a part of Queens County. In 1897, the central peninsular towns of Hammels (named after a local landowner, Louis Hammels) and Hollands merged, and were incorporated as the Village of Rockaway Beach.

Hace 5 días · Since the colonial period, the DeMott family lived in the Town of Hempstead. The DeMott name was eventually shortened to Mott. The tombstones formerly located on this 38 feet by 61 feet site were removed in the early 20th century.
