After the celebrations for his birthday, King Albert, who retained his title after his abdication, will leave for the south of France. On 2 July King Albert and his wife, Queen Paola, celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary.

He was the youngest son of King Æthelwulf and his first wife Osburh, who both died when Alfred was young.Three of Alfred's brothers, Æthelbald, Æthelberht and Æthelred, reigned in turn before him.
