Home - Passion 2022. Nearly 400 years ago the history of the Passion Play began. The plague raged in many parts of Europe and did not spare Oberammergau either. In 1633 the Oberammergau villagers promised to perform the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ every tenth year, in so far as no one was to die of the plague anymore.
How often does the Passion Play in Oberammergau take place? The Play has been taking place every ten years since the year 1634. The next Passion Play will take place in 2030 with performances five times a week starting with the first show on 16 May 2022 and the final performance on 4 October 2022.
