The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is a historic art museum between 7th, 9th, F, and G Streets NW in Washington, D.C., United States. Founded in 1962 and opened in 1968, it is part of the Smithsonian Institution. Its collections focus on images of famous Americans.
The National Portrait Gallery strives to present a more complete narrative, one that acknowledges the history of slavery, racism, and inequality in the United States. Know Before You Go. In an effort to standardize security throughout the Smithsonian Institution and ensure the safety of visitors, the artworks and objects within the National Portrait Gallery, visitors will experience new security measures. All visitors will be required to pass through screening at the museum's G Street and F Street entrances.
