Production. The first two seasons of the anime, which would adapt Phantom Blood, Battle Tendency and Stardust Crusaders, were greenlit at the same time in 2011. Due to the success of the first season, David Production immediately began work on animating the second season, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders after its conclusion, with pre-production starting as early as July 2013.

The first season covers the first 69 chapters of the manga. As with the prior season, the opening theme animations were produced by the studio Kamikaze Douga (神風動画).
