The Actors Studio is a membership organization for professional actors, theatre directors and playwrights at 432 West 44th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded on October 5, 1947, by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford and Robert Lewis who trained member actors. [1]

The Actors Studio is a theater workshop for professional actors founded in New York City in 1947 by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford, and Robert Lewis. The founders felt that serious actors needed a place where they could work together, between jobs or during long runs, to continue their development and to have a safe space to experiment with new forms of theater.
The Actors Studio / New York. Located in the heart of the Theatre District in New York City, the Studio’s landmark structure on West 44th Street houses offices, rehearsal spaces, the Paul Newman Library, and a 99-seat theatre. Sessions are private, but the theatre opens to the public occasionally when our work is considered ready for an audience.
