The Gymnopédies are the first compositions with which Erik Satie tried to cut himself loose from the conventional 19th century “salon music” environment of his father and stepmother.

Serge Koussevitzky (1874-1951) conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This recording dates from 1930 and was coupled with Bolero in RCA Victor's two-record set M-352. This transfer comes from the 1947 reissue of that same set as DM-352.
