In act 2, there were scenes where Jinx were making those mechanical firelights. So all that likely was Jinx's work. Jinx stole the butterfly automatons from Progress Day, IIRC we see her tinkering with one in the scene where Silco storms in angry, I think he actually snatches one off her when he goes "Enforcers! Dead!"
It would piss off Jinx though, and from those two guys in Jinx's introduction, we know people are terrified of her. Which might explain why they left her at the end of ep 6, but I agree it's weird. As I understand it, the Firelights and Vi had the same strategy in S1. They all wanted to destroy Silco's empire by undermining his shimmer business.
