Description. Grade II+. Windmill. Dated 1627 and 1749, altered and much restored 1963. Post- mill on circular base of C19 whitewashed brick with shallow conical roof of metal sheets. 2 doors. Timber framed and weatherboarded chamber above has curved roof, double board doors with board hood on shaped brackets, and small board door to loft.

Pitstone Windmill. This is believed to be the oldest windmill in the British Isles and bears the date 1627. It was badly damage by the great storm of 1902, which ended its working life. After emergency repairs, a public subscription was opened in 1963 for the purchase of materials to enable restoration work to be undertaken by local volunteers.
