You have 20 cycles to beat the game. Every time you die, the cycle resets, just like with Survivor or Monk, so that's 20 completed hibernations. Once your cycle count goes negative, the next time you die will end the game. 20 cycles where death equals restart day, after which death is instead end of game.

Finding out, say, the behaviour of scavengers is very interesting and feels like an accomplishment once you know how to properly befriend them. But with the Hunter's permadeath, I just felt like I was cheated and nothing more. #15.

Yes, the Hunter has limited cycles but you will receive an additional 5 cycles when you visit Pebbles. I don't want to spoil too much for you, but you seem to have figured out that delivering the neuron is your objective. You might like to see both Moon and Pebbles along the way. The pearl is similar to any other colored pearl in the world.
