Release and critical reception. "Trans-Europe Express" was released as a single in 1977, [7] and charted in the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number 67, also peaked at No. 96 in the Canada charts. Trans-Europe Express as a single did not chart in the UK. [8] In 2020, Billboard and The Guardian both named it as Kraftwerk's greatest song.
"Spiegelsaal" and "Trans Europa Express" hardly have any musical substance - it's all about fancy sounds going back and forth, and those sounds do not sound as fresh as they did in 1977. It is not the first time that I am disappointed by the overly hyped Kraftwerk. I guess, I just stick to the above mentioned 2 albums, and that's about it.
