Our review: Parents say ( 5 ): Kids say ( 21 ): Young readers who enjoyed The Outsiders often want to read this one, which contains realistic portrayals of the same tough, wrong-side-of-the-track kids. But while The Outsiders simply exploits pathos, THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW explores more complex ideas only touched on in the earlier book.
1 de ene. de 1978 · I first read "That Was Then This is Now", probably in 1974 when I was 13. It was very intense reading at that time and I read The Outsiders as well, which was also a good book. Reading them again at the age of 57, I still find both books good, although pretty depressing, but it amazes me that a teenager wrote them.
