Forrest Fang's first instrument was the violin. In 1980-1981, he studied electronic music, composition, and jazz improvisation at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. At the same time, he learned to fiddle at regional fiddling festivals and gained an appreciation for stringed instruments such as the mandolin and mandola.
Forrest Fang è un musicista solitario che durante gli anni '90 ha coniato uno dei linguaggi piu` originali della world-music elettronica. Nato a Los Angeles nel 1959, Fang studiò composizione alla Washington University di St Louis, nel Missouri, dove venne iniziato alla composizione jazz e alla composizione elettronica, nonche' alle tecniche di registrazione digitale.
