The Police (engl. für ‚die Polizei‘) war eine englische New-Wave-Band, die von 1979 bis 1983 ihre Erfolge hatte. Sie gilt als eine der erfolgreichsten Rockformationen des New Wave. Anfangs von Punk und Reggae inspiriert, experimentierte das Trio später auch mit Elementen des Jazz.

The Police var ett brittiskt reggae/rock- och new waveband bildat i London 1977.Under nästan hela bandets historia bestod gruppen av Sting (sång, basgitarr), Stewart Copeland (trummor) och Andy Summers (gitarr). The Police blev internationellt kända i slutet av 1970-talet och generellt sett som ett av de första new wave-banden att nå framgång inför en bred publik.
