On their return to Paris in 1947 Chauviré appeared in Lifar's ballet Les Mirages, in which she created the role of the Shadow, one of the parts most closely associated with her. She left the Opera again in 1949, and while returning in 1953, became a frequent guest with other companies, including the Royal Ballet and the Bolshoi.

Yvette Chauviré war seit ihrem zehnten Lebensjahr Schülerin der Ballettschule an der Pariser Oper. Sie war dort Schülerin von Boris Kniaseff und Victor Gsovsky. 1934 wurde sie in das Corps de ballet der Pariser Oper aufgenommen, das zu dieser Zeit von Serge Lifar geleitet wurde. Rudolf Nureyev, unable to leave Leningrad, yearned to appear with her in Giselle. After his defection the French government refused to allow them to perform the work for fear of upsetting the Russians.
