Sadly, his life was cut short on August 15th, 1935, when he crashed in what was the Territory of Alaska with his friend, celebrity Will Rogers.

The engine had stalled just after take-off, causing the plane to nose-dive and crash into a lagoon. Both Post and Rogers died instantly.

Mae and her husband, William Francis Post, named the infant Wiley Hardeman. He was one of five children born to the small-time cotton farmers. As a young boy Wiley Post never enjoyed farming.
