In 1969, Terry Riley recorded and released two of his compositions: Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band and A Rainbow of Curved Air. Both of these works drew on ideas Riley first used in his seminal In C, but applied them to an electronic idiom. This enabled Riley to produce the kinds of textures that occur in In C without the help of other performers.
