Jonathan Demme (Baldwin, Nassau, Nueva York, 22 de febrero de 1944-Nueva York, 26 de abril de 2017) [1] fue un director de cine, productor y guionista estadounidense, ganador del Óscar al mejor director en 1991 por The Silence of the Lambs (El silencio de los corderos en España, y El silencio de los inocentes en Hispanoamérica).
Robert Jonathan Demme (/ ˈ d ɛ m i / DEM-ee; February 22, 1944 – April 26, 2017) was an American filmmaker, whose career directing, producing, and screenwriting spanned more than 30 years and 70 feature films, documentaries, and television productions.
Jonathan Demme was born on 22 February 1944 in Baldwin, Long Island, New York, USA. He was a director and producer, known for The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Rachel Getting Married (2008) and Philadelphia (1993). He was married to Joanne Howard and Evelyn Purcell. He died on 26 April 2017 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.

Biografía. Jonathan Demme era hijo de la actriz Dorothy Demme. El trabajo de su padre le llevó en su adolescencia desde Nueva York hasta Florida, concretamente a Miami, ciudad en donde su progenitor trabajaba como relaciones públicas en el Hotel Fontainebleau.
